Ex-Gay Group Urges Congressional Support For Former Gays
July 23, 2004 - Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays is urging
congressional support for a resolution that calls for tolerance and respect for
ex-gays.
The ex-gay ministry has published a resolution that Congress can pass to make a
public commitment to tolerance for all individuals--including those who have
chosen to leave the gay lifestyle. According to PFOX, "The resolution says that
Congress condemns hate against ex-gays and affirms its commitment to a society
that respects all people, including former homosexuals."
PFOX has drafted a resolution for the Senate and for the House of
Representatives and is encouraging ex-gays and supporters of PFOX to urge their
legislators to sign on to the resolution.
The "Concurrent Resolution: Supporting tolerance for former homosexuals," says,
in part:
"Whereas clients of counselors, therapists, and psychiatrists have the right to
determine the course and direction of treatment or counseling they receive
relative to same sex attractions, including heterosexual-affirmative
alternatives.... Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of
Representatives concurring), that it is the sense of Congress that Congress -
condemns intolerance and hate against former homosexuals and lesbians; commends
the ex-gay organizations through our Nation that are united in condemning
intolerance against former homosexuals and lesbians; and reaffirms its
commitment to a society that respects all people, including former homosexuals
and lesbians."
