Creating Fatherless Families
By Linda A. Nicolosi
October 16, 2006 -
A feature article in the Los Angeles Times (10-16-2006, "Making a Family Without a Marriage" by Lee Romney) recently showcased the family life of a lesbian couple.
The article--written from a point-of-view that was sympathetic to the legal redefinition of marriage--nevertheless offered some telling comments by the children of the two women.
The daughter, who was given the name of Gavin, says the idea of having a father "turns her off." "I love being raised by women," she said. "You don't hear as much about mothers beating their husbands or their children, or leaving."
When asked how he could have two mothers, their son Baylor, 12, explains as follows: "A guy grants a sperm to one of my moms so I can be born."
In conversation, the boy refers to his father as either "Jay" or "The Sperm." As the reporter explained, the kids view the man "as a friend, not a father."
Both Gavin and Baylor participated in a recent demonstration against the traditional definition of marriage.
In the Times article, Focus on the Family psychologist Bill Maier, Ph.D., was quoted as taking exception to the American Psychological Association's assertion that same-sex parenting is not problematic. "A just, compassionate society," he said, "should never intentionally create a motherless or fatherless family."
